Welcome to the Jungle! Talk about a magical rainforest getaway. Helen is the Drake Bay whisperer. She truly can help coordinate, book, or provide recommendations for everything during your stay starting from your arrival flight and ending at the departure drop off. We didn't have to lift a finger for coordinating tours, transport, meals, anything - what a treat. National Park, snorkeling, night walk, massage all set up and taken care of with reliable and professional local guides. Each private bungalow is nestled into a private view of the Bay, easily 50+ bird species will flutter around you if you watch and listen closely. A truly immersive experience in a heavily ecologically protected region. The lodging is clean and tidy, with regular upkeep daily to keep with daily adventures, mud, and rain. Rooms have well equipped AC, small fridge, and dehumidifier. Laundry service was nice after long hot days to keep things from getting smelly too. Meals are fully coordinated and dietary restrictions are well accommodated. The variety as a vegetarian was truly appreciated. Normally it feels like an after thought eating only sides even at restaurants, but here we got variety at every meal. Everything was freshly prepped and cooked foods for a clean eating experience. Helen remembers if you don't like a specific fruit in the morning and how you take your coffee. I was feeling congested one day and she made me ginger tea and a special home remedy as if she were caring for her own family. Greenleaf is a locally family run business with deep care and respect to protect the region, land, and extensive ecosystem. Traveling and experiencing it this way was special. Helen makes you feel like family, alongside her family, while sharing all of her animals friends who she lovingly protects. We spent 4 nights in August. Though we didn't want to leave, it felt perfect for some local exploration, several tours, and a day of lounging taking it slow. This is the only place I would stay in Drake Bay.Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

Exceptional hospitality, spectacular views and wildlife on your doorstep We spent several nights at Greenleaf and had a truly wonderful stay. Hellen is an exceptional host: warm, attentive and extremely helpful. She takes care of virtually everything, from transfers to excursions, so you can simply relax and enjoy Drake Bay without having to organize every detail yourself. Our room was very spacious, immaculately clean and comfortable. The large private terrace, complete with a hammock and a magnificent panoramic view over the bay, was one of the highlights of our stay. Waking up to that view — and watching the changing light over the forest and the water — was unforgettable. The meals were also very good: fairly refined without being pretentious, tasty and, most importantly, exceptionally fresh. Dining in the open restaurant overlooking the surrounding forest made the experience even more special. Greenleaf has a very personal atmosphere. It does not feel like a large, anonymous resort, but rather as though you are staying with friends who genuinely want you to have a wonderful time. The other side of that informality is that, if you are like us, you may sometimes hesitate to make special requests because everything feels so personal. But that warmth and authenticity are also precisely what make the lodge so memorable. Hellen is from the area and clearly has a deep respect and affection for its nature. The lodge grounds attract an astonishing amount of wildlife, including monkeys, coatis and even tapirs. You could almost joke that a trip to Corcovado National Park is no longer necessary — although, of course, we would still recommend doing both! Greenleaf is not cheap, but you are completely taken care of throughout your stay. Considering the exceptional hospitality, spacious accommodation, wonderful food, spectacular setting and abundance of wildlife, we felt it offered a very special experience. We honestly struggled to see what the considerably more expensive resorts in the region would add. A unique, intimate and highly recommended place to stay in Drake Bay.Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

An amazing experience in Drake Bay! My wife and I stayed at Drake Bay Greenleaf for 4 nights in July 2026. It was one of the best stays we have ever had anywhere in the world. Helen, the owner and manager of Drake Bay Greenleaf, made us feel like family from the beginning until the end of our stay. We had breathtaking views of the entire Bay from our room, which was spotless and very comfortable. Every day Helen served us the most delicious meals - this was the best food we had in all of Costa Rica. Finally, it felt like we were living in a national park - from our room we saw toucans, dozens of birds, monkeys. And we even were able to see 2 tapirs up close as they walked through the grounds of the hotel one night. Our stay at Drake Bay Greenleaf was truly magical.Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

Five stars does not do justice to Greenleaf at Drake Bay! Five stars does not do justice to the fantastic experience we had at Drake Bay Greenleaf. It is truly an exceptional and special place. The bungalows are private and beautiful and the view from the porch is spectacular. The meals are included and provide the experience of a high-end chef at a renowned restaurant. The care and creativity taken with every meal made for an exceptional experience along with the restaurant space which was breathtaking and spectacular. Every meal was adjusted if needed to support our 13 year old son with the watermelon smoothies at the top of his favourite list. We saw many animals on the property who wander around like they own it - tapirs, monkeys, coatis. Our guide at Corcovado National Park said that Greenleaf has a mini Corcovado there. Perhaps the best part of the visit was the extreme hospitality Helen brought to the experience. She knows the Osa Peninsula/Drake Bay inside-out, and all the places to go and things to do. She shares her wisdom and suggestions freely and is truly passionate about conservation, animal welfare and health and wellness. Greenleaf lodge/resort was an exceptional experience that we will cherish as one of our top travel experiences and we look forward to returning in the future!Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

The most incredible experience in Drake Bay Gorgeous and peaceful, the ocean view bungalows at Greenleaf are perfect for a luxurious as well as immersive Drake Bay experience. Helen is an extraordinary host who is both friendly and funny and one of those people you feel like you've known your whole life. The food is top rated in both flavour and presentation. From bread to delicious sauces and even ice cream--everything is homemade from scratch. And amazing... Drake Bay Greenleaf is also a place where animals and humans live side by side. Be sure to look at photos and Instagram to see all the different animals that might come and go during your stay. If I could I would give this place 10 stars as it was such a highlight and very much exceeded expectations. We will be back!Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

Welcome Home There are not enough stars to give Drake Bay Greenleaf, nor words or pictures to do it justice. It's an experience to be had. We were greeted warmly by owner, Hellen, who said, "Welcome to your home," and she means it. The grounds and casitas are immaculate. You are truly perched within the jungle, but Hellen somehow manages to keep any "uninvited guests" out of the rooms. Waking up to the birds chirping and view of the ocean and falling asleep to the stars and crickets is just magical. The food is like Michelin star meals three times a day. While our trip to Corcovado was amazing, it was an experience to simply sit outside after dinner and meet Chi Chi, the resident tapir. We saw coatis, tucans, and a many other beautiful birds on the property. One of our favorite adventure was walking part of the Drake Bay Hiking Trail which is easily accessible from the property. What truly makes Drake Bay Greenleaf special is Hellen. Nothing is too much trouble and she will do anything and everything to make sure your stay is perfect and comfortable. She coordinates everything and you don't have to worry about a thing. By the end of our time, I had made a lifelong friend in Hellen. Our time at Drake Bay Greenleaf is something we'll never forget.Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

Best stay ever! This stay was 10 stars! I’m not sure I can write a review that would truly capture the magic that exists at Drake Bay Greenleaf with Helen and her wonderful establishment. My husband and I stayed with her for three nights and it was perfect. The private bungalow, the food, the animals and our host Helen!! Spectacular!! She takes care of everything - even delivering morning coffee - 5:30 for my husband and 8:30 for me - not requested - she just knew based on conversations and getting to know us!! It’s special - and the food…. fresh - local and so tasty!! You will not want to leave!Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

It’s like visiting your favorite relative in Costa Rica Staying at Greenleaf bay is like visiting your favorite sister who was born in Costa Rica, knows everyone and everything about the place, is obsessive about cleanliness, is the perfect hostess who anticipates your needs before you know them and can turn out incredible meals three times a day with the freshest ingredients. Hellen is heart and soul of the place (regrettably Stephen was away during our visit) and the place is a manifestation of her beautiful and caring soul. She is funny and warm, meticulous with details and extremely competent in all areas, from overseeing first-class house keeping to planning our excursions to directing the kitchen to turn out crazy good meals with fresh local ingredients (including the tuna that we caught with the arrangement she made for us). But most of all, she makes us feel welcomed and cared for like family. As for the property, it’s unique in the number of birds and animals that we encountered while staying here for three nights. About 20 coatis (yes, that many) and a tapir came to visit Hellen. Scarlet and green macaws lives in the trees, three curassows wonder the path freely and I saw a shy agouti. We saw more mammals here than at the national park. Hellen knows them all and can recount the family history of her babies. They too, are drawn to her warmth and big heart. I have traveled the world and this is a very very special place.Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

Drake Bay Greenleaf Adventure Often in life you have a good experience. Every once in awhile you have a great experience. Even more rarely it is exceptional. Drake Bay Greenleaf is exceptional! Our family of four just spent 4 days in June 2026 at this wonderful place. They treated us like family and did all the little things to make our time that much more special. Cheers to Helen, Stephen and their wonderful son Vinnie! The location is fantastic with perfect combination of jungle vibe and ocean views, the rooms modern and clean with AC and the food is on another level. My wife and I kept saying this is the best variety of food (every single meal) that we can remember. Helen was always looking after us with fresh juices after our activities, doing laundry (which was huge given all of our adventures) providing all the right tips for our kids so they had the right clothing and connecting us with transportation whenever needed. The truth is..... I can't think of a better travel lodging experience in my life. I have already recommended to family and close friends. We will be back ...and hopefully soon!! :)Posted on Tripadvisor![]()

Like staying at your best friend’s luxury home! How it felt staying at Drake Bay Greeenleaf: it was like staying at a private high-end retreat hosted by out best friends. The owners (Steve and Helen), their chef Mary and rest of staff are exceptional hosts. My husband and I flew on Sansa Airlines from San Jose to Drake Bay in May. It was a beautiful, clear day and the flight was adventurous and very safe. Steve picked us up in his new four-wheel drive Toyota truck and we felt welcomed, nurtured and like family from the very first minute. Helen was waiting for us as we pulled into Greenleaf’s gated property and greeted us with a hug and tropical refreshments as Steve put our luggage away in bungalow #3 (of only three.) We had the entire hotel to our selves for our four-day stay! The all-inclusive food and beverage was 5 star and varied at each meal. Mary even taught me how to make ceviche! But what stood out (we’re experienced, international travelers) was the wildlife and the authentic, loving attention showered on us by Helen! We saw more wildlife on property than we did on our full day tour to Corcovado National Park! Helen would alert us to wildlife in property by yelling our names from outside our bungalow ( so cute 🙂) and we’d run out to experience National Geographic right there!! If you are looking for a luxury, private and personal retreat in the middle of a tropical wilderness — book at Greenlieaf!
