Posted on Tripadvisor Sarahtravels123Verified Best stay ever! This stay was 10 stars! I’m not sure I can write a review that would truly capture the magic that exists at Drake Bay Greenleaf with Helen and her wonderful establishment. My husband and I stayed with her for three nights and it was perfect. The private bungalow, the food, the animals and our host Helen!! Spectacular!! She takes care of everything - even delivering morning coffee - 5:30 for my husband and 8:30 for me - not requested - she just knew based on conversations and getting to know us!! It’s special - and the food…. fresh - local and so tasty!! You will not want to leave!Posted on Tripadvisor tingykaoVerified It’s like visiting your favorite relative in Costa Rica Staying at Greenleaf bay is like visiting your favorite sister who was born in Costa Rica, knows everyone and everything about the place, is obsessive about cleanliness, is the perfect hostess who anticipates your needs before you know them and can turn out incredible meals three times a day with the freshest ingredients. Hellen is heart and soul of the place (regrettably Stephen was away during our visit) and the place is a manifestation of her beautiful and caring soul. She is funny and warm, meticulous with details and extremely competent in all areas, from overseeing first-class house keeping to planning our excursions to directing the kitchen to turn out crazy good meals with fresh local ingredients (including the tuna that we caught with the arrangement she made for us). But most of all, she makes us feel welcomed and cared for like family. As for the property, it’s unique in the number of birds and animals that we encountered while staying here for three nights. About 20 coatis (yes, that many) and a tapir came to visit Hellen. Scarlet and green macaws lives in the trees, three curassows wonder the path freely and I saw a shy agouti. We saw more mammals here than at the national park. Hellen knows them all and can recount the family history of her babies. They too, are drawn to her warmth and big heart. I have traveled the world and this is a very very special place.Posted on Tripadvisor Paul MVerified Drake Bay Greenleaf Adventure Often in life you have a good experience. Every once in awhile you have a great experience. Even more rarely it is exceptional. Drake Bay Greenleaf is exceptional! Our family of four just spent 4 days in June 2026 at this wonderful place. They treated us like family and did all the little things to make our time that much more special. Cheers to Helen, Stephen and their wonderful son Vinnie! The location is fantastic with perfect combination of jungle vibe and ocean views, the rooms modern and clean with AC and the food is on another level. My wife and I kept saying this is the best variety of food (every single meal) that we can remember. Helen was always looking after us with fresh juices after our activities, doing laundry (which was huge given all of our adventures) providing all the right tips for our kids so they had the right clothing and connecting us with transportation whenever needed. The truth is..... I can't think of a better travel lodging experience in my life. I have already recommended to family and close friends. We will be back ...and hopefully soon!! :)Posted on Tripadvisor Ninette VVerified Like staying at your best friend’s luxury home! How it felt staying at Drake Bay Greeenleaf: it was like staying at a private high-end retreat hosted by out best friends. The owners (Steve and Helen), their chef Mary and rest of staff are exceptional hosts. My husband and I flew on Sansa Airlines from San Jose to Drake Bay in May. It was a beautiful, clear day and the flight was adventurous and very safe. Steve picked us up in his new four-wheel drive Toyota truck and we felt welcomed, nurtured and like family from the very first minute. Helen was waiting for us as we pulled into Greenleaf’s gated property and greeted us with a hug and tropical refreshments as Steve put our luggage away in bungalow #3 (of only three.) We had the entire hotel to our selves for our four-day stay! The all-inclusive food and beverage was 5 star and varied at each meal. Mary even taught me how to make ceviche! But what stood out (we’re experienced, international travelers) was the wildlife and the authentic, loving attention showered on us by Helen! We saw more wildlife on property than we did on our full day tour to Corcovado National Park! Helen would alert us to wildlife in property by yelling our names from outside our bungalow ( so cute 🙂) and we’d run out to experience National Geographic right there!! If you are looking for a luxury, private and personal retreat in the middle of a tropical wilderness — book at Greenlieaf!Posted on Tripadvisor Juliet1558Verified Natural Paradise There’s no place more special and beautiful than Drake Bay Greenleaf, and no people kinder than the owner Hellen and her family. My fiancé and I stayed here just days after our engagement, and Hellen did everything to make the most memorable celebratory trip. For lovers of wildlife, nothing compares to Greenleaf. Monkeys, tapirs, coatis, and so many species of beautiful birds just outside our bungalow and the restaurant. Hellen is also the best cook, and she accommodates to each person’s taste, asking what we want before every single meal. She also booked all of our tours and taxis, which were each incredible. There’s nothing like this place in the world. If you have the chance, go!!!Posted on Tripadvisor Jasmine CVerified Incredible jungle getaway 🐒 This is the only place to stay if you're in Drake Bay. A beautifully maintained property nestled amongst the greenery with amazing views and wonderful staff. We regularly saw a troop of white faced monkeys, tapirs, currasows and often awoke to the sound of howler monkeys in varying degrees of proximity to our room. The owner, Hellen, is an incredibly lovely and accommodating person. Very attentive and only wants the best for her guests. I came down with a little cough during my stay and she made me tea to help soothe it. It honestly felt like stay with family. While there was no menu, Hellen would ask us if a certain element was okay, i.e if we were okay with fish or preferred chicken, and the food that followed was a delicious surprise every time. Each meal we had over our 5 night stay was different and showcased a variety of different flavours and preparation techniques. The home made juices were also so good, our favorites were the star fruit and watermelon juices. The lemonade, when available, was also super refreshing after an activity. The rooms are quite large and comfortable, with modern, well constructed details. Perfect to relax in after an excursion in the heat. With a/c, I would split my time with the hammock outside and then cool off in the room when the heat became too much. Overall, I loved it and hope we'll be able to return during the whale migrations. Staying at Green Leaf was the highlight of our trip. Thanks Hellen, we'll see you again soon!Posted on Tripadvisor Traveler4bizVerified Drake Bay perfection!!! We have been here twice now and will definitely come back! Such an amazing place to relax and experience the rainforest. Birds, tapirs, coati are all around you and Hellen, Steven and the staff take great care to ensure your experience is amazing. Can’t say enough about how much we enjoyed ourselves. Pura Vida!Posted on Tripadvisor Geri GVerified Truly one of the best travel experiences we’ve ever had! Greenleaf is an incredible place! The location and view is amazing, the rooms are spacious and spotless, the food is delicious and plentiful but above all, Helen is the best host you’ll ever meet. She thinks of everything and sees to every detail with care and kindness. Everything is top notch, we are looking forward to going back!Posted on Tripadvisor Cole SVerified Best place to stay in drakes bay by far and I’ve been going here for years! Helen from Drake Bay Greenleaf was absolutely amazing! She helped us on such short notice and made the whole process smooth and stress-free. Super knowledgeable, professional, and genuinely caring. You can tell she really knows her stuff and goes above and beyond for her clients.Posted on Tripadvisor SergeVerified World class hospitality in absolute paradise! Amazing!!!! My wife and I had the most amazing time at Drake Bay Green Leaf. We spent 5 nights at the accommodation and we were blown away. We have traveled around the world at countless hotels and stays, none of them compare to Green Leaf. The hospitality and care from Hellen, Steven and their son Vinnie is unlike anything we have ever experienced. Genuine and not forced. This is the main reason what separates Green Leaf from other stays. Hellen contacted me right after my booking, to make sure every detail was perfect, including how to get to Drake Bay from Sierpe. Upon arrival to Drake Bay from Sierpe, Steven greeted us with so much energy and passion. After a short drive to Green Leaf, Hellen was waiting on our arrival to greet us & prepared an amazing meal knowing we were tired from travel. That was just the beginning! Every meal was world class, breakfast lunch & dinner, all included with our booking. The kitchen chef is amazing!!! Every meal was completely different from the next. My wife and I were absolutely spoiled. We came to Green Leaf as visitors, and we left feeling like Hellen and Steven are family. The rooms were spotless, spacious and very comfortable. Nested in the literal jungle, being awakened by howler monkeys and birds singing. Massive windows in the room showcasing the views. The amazing staff cleaned the rooms daily, with a bonus of laundry service. If you are traveling in Costa Rica, you know that is a huge plus. We slept really well every night. The AC works great and each room has a dehumidifier. The view from our bungalow was breathtaking, as you can see the rainforest all over and the bay in the distance. Best view in Drake Bay. Perfect! Hellen arranged the overnight tour at Sirena for us, and even provided ponchos, towels to wash up, and a water bottle. Hellen made sure that we had our breakfast at 5:30am before the tour. Our guide was Carlos. So knowledgeable in all of the plants and wildfire. Taught us so much regarding the rainforest. We also did a mangrove boat tour. Our guide was Gustavo and you can really see the passion for nature and wildlife. Both of the tours were unique, and we saw so much wildlife. Our goal of our trip was to spot wildlife. Our first night at Green Leaf we were delighted and amazed by a known visitor, Lulu & Lily. A female biards tapir and her baby. Steven accompanied my wife and I outside and gave us much information and history on these tapirs. We also saw countless of colorful birds & howler monkeys on the property. We didnt even need to leave our hotel, after all this is the Osa Penninsula! Hellen is a native of Drake Bay and both Steven and Hellen are so knowledgeable on the surrounding area. Connections to the best tour guides in the region. So much interesting facts and details shared regarding nature, wildlife, the culture. We enjoyed our time & every conversation with them. Truly a once in a lifetime experience. Already cannot wait to visit again and reconnect with our Green Leaf family!
